There is no discernible narrative or subject in my work. Each painting is a fine balance between the process of painting, and working out what to do next. Essentially I am trying to fix a moment in time.
My practice has evolved and developed from the tradition of Abstract Expressionism. I work with a clear open mind, responding intuitively to the magic of paint. I have a passion for bright colour, layers and depth. Recently I have been trying to keep the process as free and open as possible. The process is like a game of hide and seek, scraping back to reveal the layers beneath, or perhaps covering and re-working these layers in an attempt to find a synthesis between the various elements. The paint is smeared, dragged, flicked and dripped, using a variety of tools and implements.
